Cancer-Proofing Your Body

According to the National Cancer Institute, the 5-year relative survival rate of all cancers was 70.5% between 2016 and 2022. Not bad odds! Yet, the occurrences of some cancers are increasing (breast, colorectal, uterine, and kidney), particularly in women and in several under-50 age groups. We know some types of cancers have higher odds of survival than others, but what can we do to mitigate the effects of any cancer?

How Do You Build Resilience to Cancer?

Reduce cancer risk by maintaining an appropriate weight for your frame, increasing your vitamin D, exercising, and quitting smoking. Vigorous, regular exercise lowers cancer risk for multiple types of cancer, including colon, breast, endometrial, and kidney cancers!

Early Detection is Critical

In addition to prevention efforts, early detection is key to maximizing survival rates for many cancers. It simply gives a doctor more time to treat the cancer before it spreads. For example, if caught early, there’s about a 90% 5-year survival rate for colon cancer, versus only a 15% 5-year survival rate after it spreads to nearby organs.

Physicals: How Doctors Look for Cancer’s Clues

Physicals are an in-depth examination of your overall health. Doctors are alert to:

1. Abnormal lab results giving the first hint (unusual blood cell counts or liver enzymes)

2. Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite

3. Persistent pain, fever, or fatigue

4. Enlarged lymph nodes or thyroid

5. Abnormal ultrasound results on the thyroid, liver, or abdominal aorta

Discover how TCIM’s expert diagnostics from our Comprehensive Executive Physical become your greatest allies in creating a resilient, cancer-resistant body.
